Joel part 5, A study of Joel 1:18, Joel 1:19, and Joel 1:20 featuring our Common Man's Commentary and study quiz

Joel 1:18

"How the cattle moan! The herds mill about because they have no pasture; even the flocks of sheep are suffering." NIV translation

The livestock were affected as well and are suffering because they have no food. This is a reminder that man's sin has consequences for everything on the earth just as it did with Adam and Eve.

Joel 1:19

"To you, O Lord, I call, for fire has devoured the open pastures and flames have burned up all the trees of the field." NIV translation

When you are beaten down, look up. That is what Joel does here as he has surveyed the damage to the land and came to the conclusion that only God can help.

If that's what it takes to get you to repentance then God just may allow "damage" in your life. But, when you call out, He will be there to answer.

Joel 1:20

"Even the wild animals pant for you; the streams of water have dried up and fire has devoured the open pastures." NIV translation

The sin of man affects all of the earth as even the plants and the animals have suffered because of our disobedience. But, there is coming a day when sin will be removed and there will be a new heaven and new earth without the effects of sin. Oh! What a glorious day!
