The Fall Of Man, Who Was The First To Sin?...

The fall of man is an important teaching of all three of the major faiths. We will compare the account given in the Qu'ran with the Torah/The Bible. The Jewish and Christian accounts are identical therefore we will explain them and compare Islam to them.
The biblical account begins when satan wanted to be GOD. We are told that there was a battle in heaven and satan was defeated and cast to the earth. One third of the angels fought on his side and were cast out with him. This account tells us that the origin of sin was the devil.

The account given in the Qu'ran is much different. In surah 002.030 to 002.034, we are told that GOD created Adam and taught him the names of all things. Then, GOD told the angels to tell Him the names of all things and they could not. Then, GOD told Adam to tell the angels the names of all things and he did. Finally, we are told that GOD told the angels to bow down to Adam. All the angels bowed down except Iblis (devil) would not.

This account does not agree with the rest of the Qu'ran. The Qu'ran states over and over again that GOD alone should be worshipped. Therefore, GOD would have told the angels to commit the first sin by telling them to bow down to Adam.

The biblical account of the fall of man is found in Genesis chapters 2 and 3. We are told that GOD created Adam from the dirt to care for the garden He had created in the east. There were two trees in the center of that garden. One was called the tree of life and the other was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Then, GOD told Adam that he was free to eat from any tree in the garden except the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

We are told that Eve was then created from the rib of Adam. Then, the serpent (devil) questioned Eve about GODs' command to Adam. Satan convinced Eve that it would be good for them to eat from that tree. She ate and also gave to Adam and he ate some.

Then, we are told that GOD banished them from the garden so that they would not eat from the tree of life and live forever.

The account in the Qu'ran is quite different. We are told, in surah 020.120-123, that satan whispered to Adam and convinced them to eat of the tree. Then, we are told that, after they had sinned, GOD out of his grace forgave them. Then they were sent down from the garden to live on earth.
There are three main points of disagreement about the fall of man. The first point is the origin of sin. In the Qu'ran, GOD tells the angels to commit sin by bowing to something besides GOD. In the Torah/Bible, Satan wanted to be GOD and therefore committed the first sin by his own choice.

The next difference is in the deception and the punishment. In the Qu'ran, satan whispered to Adam and convinced them to eat of the fruit. The fall of man is described as being made to slip. In the Torah/Bible, satan deceived Eve and they ate. The biblical account goes on to tell us that, because of this, GOD would greatly increase the womans' pains in childbearing. (Genesis 3:16)

The final point is in the location of the garden. In the Qu'ran, surah 020.123, Adam and Eve are sent down to earth after disobeying. If they were sent down that would mean that the garden was in the heavens and not on the earth. This does not agree with the account, in the Qu'ran, of the creation story where the plants were created on the earth.

In the Torah/Bible, we are told that the garden was located on the earth (probably in modern Iraq). After their disobedience, they are sent out into the earth so they would not eat from the tree of life.
