Creation Story, A Comparison...
The creation story is a foundational part of all three major faiths. All three accept the fact that the story of creation was given to Moses as part of the Torah (Tawrah). The Torah and the Bible are in complete agreement. Therefore, we will compare the Qu'ran to the account in The Bible.
Chapter 1 of the book of Genesis, tells the story of how the world and everything in it was made (creation story). We are told that GOD created the heavens and the earth. On the first day GOD made light and separated the light and the darkness giving them the names day and night respectively.
We are told that on the second day, God made the sky. On the third day, He gathered the waters and made dry ground and seas. Then, He commanded the land to produce plants and vegetation.
On the fourth day, we are told that, GOD created the stars, the sun, and the moon. We are told that GOD made the birds and the sea creatures on the fifth day. On the sixth day, He created the animals and man.
Christianity, Islam, and Judaism agree on the first six days of the creation story. The difference emerges with the seventh day. The Torah and the Bible both say that, on the seventh day, GOD rested from his work.
In surah 007.054, the Qu'ran says that everything was created in six days. But, the seventh day is rejected due to a misunderstanding of its' purpose. Islam rejects this day because the Qu'ran states that GOD did not rest or grow weary from His work. (surahs 005.015, 046.033, 050.038)
According to Islam, the idea that GOD rested implies that He grew weary and therefore required rest. This would be seen as a weakness in GOD and is unacceptable to a Muslim.
The truth is that GOD rested on that day but not because He was weary. The actual meaning is that on the seventh day GOD ceased (rested) from His work of creation because it was finished.
Later in the Torah and Bible, this day of rest is known as the Sabbath. Keeping the Sabbath became a part of the Law given to Moses. That Law, in the form of the Ten Commandments, and is accepted by all three of the faiths.
In Judaism, keeping the Sabbath is still an integral part of the basic beliefs. It begins at sundown on Friday and ends at sundown on Saturday with no work performed in between. This is a part of the works that lead to salvation.
In Christianity, salvation is gained through acceptance of and belief in JESUS as the Son of GOD. Therefore, the Sabbath is not required to be observed for salvation.
The Sabbath is mentioned in the Qu'ran (surahs 002.065, 002.066, 004.047, 004.154) but is not required or observed by a Muslim. One of the practices of Islam is the noon prayers on Friday. This may in fact be related to the Jewish requirement for observance of the Sabbath.
As you can see, the three major faiths have more of the creation story in common than is different. Islam even refers to Christians and Jews as people of the Book.
