Christian News, World Events From A Christian Perspective...

Christian news can help us to look at world events from a biblical perspective. It seems that many voices are allowed in the world today but almost all of them speak in an anti-christian way. We know that God is in control even in these difficult times!

Some of the voices are openly hostile to the christian worldview. Most of the remaining voices treat Christians in the same way as the stereotypical "crazy aunt in the attic". We can take comfort in Galatians 6:7&8. (Look it up and make that promise a part of your life!)

Iran's Nuclear Program

Iran has either already began or will soon begin enrichment of uranium at a new fortified facility. The new facility (the Fordo facility) is about twenty kilometers north of the Iranian city of Qom which is a center of religious life in Iran. The facility is said to be ninety meters (about 120 feet) below solid rock and protected by air defenses and the Revolutionary Guards. The site is said to have more efficient centrifuges and the ability to enrich (purify) the uranium to 20%.

"Arab Spring" or Approaching Winter?

While the picture of Spring provokes a sense of a new beginning and a fresh start, the approaching winter speaks of harder times ahead. Which accurately decribes the current conditions in Egypt?

The Muslim Brotherhood has emerged as the biggest winners in the first round of Egypt's parliamentary elections while the Al-Nour party has won the second largest share of seats. The Deputy Head of the Muslim Brotherhood's new political party has said "We want to apply the basics of Shariah Law" while the Al-Nour party has said it will push for a stricter religious code in Egypt. The new government is set to be announced on Wednesday December 7th. (A day we remember the Pearl Harbor attack of World War II)

PLease pray for the Christians in Egypt to stand in the face of the coming escalation in persecution. Also, pray for those that will be doing the persecuting that they may see Jesus and turn from their evil ways.

Afghanistan, The Untold Stories

A woman that was jailed because she was raped has finally been pardoned by the Afghan president. The woman had been in jail after she was arrested for adultery after being raped by the husband of her cousin. Her story came to light as the result of a documentary film that was commissioned by the European Union. Although the release of the film has been blocked, at least it put enough pressure on the government to gain her release. It is not known whether they will force her to marry her attacker as required by shariah law but we will watch the story.

Progress in Libya?

On November 28, 2011, 250 religious leaders met in Tripoli in hopes of implementing Shariah law in Libya. The USA as well as NATO has assisted in the removal of the prior government and now the country is in the hands of a National Transitional Council. The head of that council, Mustafa Abdul-Jalil has said that Shariah law will be the main source of legislation for the country. Under Shariah law, it will be illegal and punishable by death for any Muslim to accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior.

Once again, it must be said that there can not be true and lasting peace with Jesus Christ who is the Prince of Peace. Libya is considered a restricted nation as far as the freedom of its people to be Christians and to worship God. We should continue to lift up the people there in prayer.

Free Iraq?

"The innocent always pay the bill." is a quote from a miltary member that was one of the last to leave Iraq. This is a stark contrast to those that are still trying to portray it as a victory. We did "win" militarily but, as quoted, we are not the ones that are going to pay the ultimate bill it is the people left behind, especially Christians.

The persecution of Christians in Iraq is growing rapidly now and I ask that you pray for their strength to stand in the face of the persecution to come.

Middle East Peace...

The Palestinian Authority has admitted failure in the United Nations Security Council as they were only able to secure eight of the nine required votes for statehood. It is now likely that thye will turn to the General Assembly and seek an upgrade in their status to "Observer Nation".

A simple solution can be found in the Holy Bible and that is the fact that God has prescribed the borders of the state of Israel and, if the world would simply accept God's Word, we would not be in this situation.

This situation does not surprise God and in fact it is foretold in the book of Revelation. We see, in chapter 20 verses 1 - 10, that the final battle will be for Jerusalem. (The PA wants Jerusalem to be the capitol of their state.) The actions this week are simply more steps in the direction of the end days. We can take comfort in the fact that God is still on His throne and is in control.
