Julie Rollins, Sharing Her Faith Through Science Fiction

Photobucket
Julie Rollins is a gifted writer of science fiction that helps to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the world. Her testimony of how she got started writing and how God is using her follows:

I can't remember a time when I didn't know about Jesus. I was raised in a Christian home but, as I grew older, I realized I had to take ownership of my faith. During my first year of college, I did some serious searching and began to really read the Bible. Jesus didn't disappoint me. I found Him to be dependable and more than sufficient to address the issues facing me in life.

My parents always encouraged us to try new things. All four of us sisters are serving God in amazing ways: building houses for the poor in Mexico, leading worship at church, encouraging homeschooling, and doing pro-life work.

When I was a new mother, I felt very housebound. I decided to write a science fiction novel as a creative way to share my faith. I didn't write because I wanted to be an author, but because I wanted to draw people to Jesus. Before I typed a single word, I got on my knees and dedicated my writing to God. I enjoy the mental stimulation of science fiction, but I don't care for evolutionary, atheist, or new-age worldviews. Still, the science fiction genre offers many great opportunities. It is a wonderful medium for showing the flaws of our society. Moral and theological beliefs can be eloquently displayed in a way that deeply impacts Christians and non-Christians. Science fiction can be a powerful tool for sharing the gospel of Jesus. Unfortunately, Christian publishers and writers have mostly neglected this fertile genre.

Star Wars thrilled me in high school, even though the impersonal "Force" was paltry compared to God. I wondered why Christians didn't produce something similar to Star Wars, something that was fun, action-packed, imaginative, and Christian? Many years later, I set out to write a story containing all the things I craved. I quickly wrote my first novel, which later became Arana's Visitor, Vashua's Messenger, and Blackwell's Wrath. Then, I watched in surprise as the manuscripts hooked my husband, sisters, their children, and several friends. As I continued to add more books in The Vadelah Chronicles series, people asked for the next manuscript, and the next, and the next!

After much urging from readers, we started to publish our books. The first five novels in the series are now available at julierollins.com. I illustrated the covers, while my husband helped with layout and editing. God used my skills and revealed new ones I never knew I had.

It gives me great joy when readers share how my books encouraged them in their faith, understanding of God, and Bible reading. I look forward to seeing where God will direct me in the future.

Arana's Visitor

ARANA'S VISITOR by Julie Rollins is the first book in the VADELAH CHRONICLES series. It is Christian science fiction that is interesting even for those that are not into science fiction. The message of Jesus Christ is skillfully entwined with a tale of life on other planets. It is also a wonderful story of how God can use the average person (even a college student) to further the Kingdom.

Vashua's Messenger

VASHUA'S MESSENGER is the second installment in the series and really drives the whole Great Commission point home. The book continues the adventure of David Decker as he takes the message of Jesus Christ to foreign worlds. The worlds depicted in the tale can give us some insight into the human condition as well as providing a great adventure for the science fiction enthusiast. If you know a science fiction buff, you would do them a favor by introducing them to this series of books.
